Gurpreet joined the University of the West of England in July as the first Professor of the Aldridge Institute. The Institute provides a much-needed voice for enterprise and entrepreneurship teaching and learning, and as pioneers of change and disruptors of policy, we strongly advocate the positive value of enterprise and entrepreneurship education and the need for equal opportunity and young people equipped with future-proofed skills.
Prior to this, Gups was Director of Research, Enterprise and Innovation at London South Bank University (LSBU), and CEO of South Bank University Enterprises Ltd (SBUEL) where his main responsibilities include the strategic and day-to-day operations for London South Bank University’s (LSBU) research and enterprise activities. He joined LSBU in September 2014 from University College, London (UCL) where he served as Deputy Director for UCL Advances with strategic oversight of enterprise and small business engagement activities
An inspirational, transformational and visionary Director, with over a decade of experience, spanning a number of higher education institutions, Gurpreet has successfully established, executed and fostered the growth of a number of enterprise and business outreach centres strengthening their links with local industry. He has a demonstrable track record of increasing the level of research grant income and volume of engagement in enterprise and entrepreneurship activity wherever he has worked.
At LSBU, and in a relatively short period of time(approximately 18-months), he has established an award-winning research and enterprise centre. This success has been marked by anaward and recognitionfor LSBU’s Clarence Centre as an Outstanding centre for Enterprise and Innovation worldwide. Most recently, LSBU’s learning provision has been highly commended and LSBU successfully secured the crown as The Times Higher Award for Entrepreneurial University of the Year. An award that recognises talent and awards centres for outstandingentrepreneurial support offered to students, graduates, staff and the local community.
